You will find them on greeting cards, in Christian artwork hanging in peoples’ homes, in the mouths of well-meaning Christian friends, and even quoted by unbelievers. They are Scripture passages that have been taken out of context and misapplied…And usually the misapplication is very appealing to our human nature. That’s why they are popular, repeated so often and treasured by so many. It’s only when we consider the context in which any Bible passage is written that we will begin to understand what God is saying to us through it…and it will always lead us back to God and his promises through Jesus, not to false promises that produce false hope. It will never lead us to ourselves or our own power or will, but to God’s. In this series we will examine ten commonly misapplied Bible passages, consider the context in which they were written, and rejoice in the truth that they reveal.
