Exodus 20:15- “You shall not steal.”

In the 1500’s a man named Martin Luther wrote an explanation for the seventh commandment based on the rest of Scripture. Here’s what he said, “You shall not steal. What does this mean? We should fear and love God that we do not take our neighbor’s money or property, or get it by dishonest dealing, but help him to improve and protect his property and means of income.” Why are we tempted to steal? It is because we don’t trust God to give us what we need. Notice I didn’t say what we want, but what we need. God has given you everything that you need for this life and the next. He will continue to provide for you every single day of your life and give you exactly what you need when you need it. You have a Father in heaven that you can trust because he gives you what you need when you need it. Because of that, we can rejoice with others over what they have, and look to help them protect their property and wealth.
