Malachi 3:8-10
“Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.
“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’
“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
Many of us would say that the seventh commandment isn’t a problem for us. We haven’t stole anything from anyone nor would we ever. Yet, I wonder how many of us steal from God every pay check? I wonder how much time we steal from God every week? The reality is that everything in this world belongs to God and that includes our wealth. God says to give a first portion of our paychecks to him. In doing so, our hearts recognize and give thanks to God for everything he’s given us. When we don’t God says we steal from him, taking for ourselves what belongs to him. But notice what he promises when we do give him what is his: he will bless us abundantly. We have a God who wants to give to us, but we also have a God who wants us to trust him. So trust him and give first to him. Test him in this and watch as he opens the floodgates of heaven.
