Ruth 2:2-3,20 And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.”
Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.
20 “The Lord bless him!” Naomi said to her daughter-in-law. “He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead.” She added, “That man is our close relative; he is one of our guardian-redeemers.”
It was no coincidence that Ruth ended up in Boaz’s field. This was God’s providence. God was working behind the scenes to take care of Naomi and Ruth. Boaz was a relative to Naomi’s husband, who had passed away. Boaz was a family member who could, according to the custom of the day, purchase their land and provide for them so that they would avoid poverty. This wasn’t chance; this was God’s providence. God is constantly working behind the scenes of your life to carry out plans for you. That new neighbor, you running into an old classmate, meeting that person at the gym or at work, these are all examples of God’s providence. As you look around your life today, who is God bringing into your life? For what purpose? Maybe there’s no other purpose than for you to share the good news of Jesus with them. But know that today, God is providing for you. There are no coincidences, only God’s providence. Look around today and you’ll see God providing emotionally, physically, and spiritually for you.
Thank you, Father, for always taking care of me. You continue to provide in every area of my life. No matter what happens today, help me to know and trust that you are there providing for all of my needs. Amen.
