Romans 8:33-34 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
One of the worst feelings is when you’ve done something wrong and you know it. Guilt starts to set in screaming at you, “You’re guilty!” We feel it. We know it. And we wonder, “What do I have to do to stop feeling this way?” What do we do? Turn to Jesus and hear his Word, “Who can bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.” God is the one who declares you not guilty, and that is exactly what he says about you. Not because you didn’t do, say, or think those things, but because Jesus paid the price for you. Because Jesus lived, died, and rose again for you, God declares you innocent, forgiven, free from all charges. Guilt has no power over you because your punishment has been paid; you are declared innocent in God’s sight.
Thank you, Jesus, for taking the punishment that I deserve so that I can be declared innocent. Thank you for giving me forgiveness and the peace knowing that I’m free from every charge because of you. Let me live in that joy today. Amen.
