Acts 17:22-23 22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

Paul was in the great city of Athens waiting for two of his friends to show up. While he was waiting, he was distressed by all the idols that he saw around the city. So he began to look around and observed their culture looking for some way to build a bridge to be able to connect people to Jesus. He found exactly what he was looking for: an idol the Athenian people had made to an unknown god. It was a great connection and the exact thing he needed to build a bridge to tell the people about Jesus. As I look at my own life, I have to question how often I do this? To be honest, a lot of times, I’m focused on me and my family. I’m focused at the job at hand, where I have to go to next, and when can I get home to relax? Do I look for ways that my culture is looking for a Savior in all the wrong places, or do I not pay attention? Thankfully the same Savior that the whole world needs, God sent for you and me. Through him we have forgiveness. Through him we have heaven. Through him we have rest when we’re exhausted from our busy lives. This is the Savior that we have and the one we want to connect others to. Look for ways that you can build a bridge to him today.

Thank you, Lord, for being with me and giving me Jesus who saved me. As I go about my day today, let my eyes and ears be open to ways that I can build bridges to connect them to you. Let me see the opportunity and connect others to Jesus, their Savior. Amen.
