1 Corinthians 12:21-23 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty
One of the worst feelings has to be the feeling of not being wanted. Maybe you can relate to that. Maybe you remember what it was like to not be picked on the team. Maybe you remember that group of students that stuck together and didn’t welcome people into their group; especially not you. Maybe you experience that every Friday as coworkers go out for a drink, but you’re never invited. It is not a good feeling. But a question we have to ask ourselves is, “Do we make people feel that way at church?” The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” No one should come to our churches and feel un-welcomed because the fact is, we need them. No matter their gifts, their status, or any other label! When we make people feel this way, we are causing divisions, and that’s not what God wants. So, this week, talk to someone at church you normally don’t. Avoid cliques. Rather, make everyone feel welcomed. As you do, you be united. United in the love and forgiveness of Jesus.
Jesus, my Savior, I’m sorry for the times that I make people feel un-welcomed whether knowingly or unknowingly. I know that you forgive me because that is your promise to me. Help me to be more observant of those around me that I may encourage everyone I see. Amen.
