Acts 4:33-35 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

The first century church understood what it meant to support each other like family. In fact, they were so committed to one another that there were no people of need among them. Why? Because when someone was in need, the people stepped up and supplied them with whatever they needed. That’s not to say that you need to go out and sell property or share everything you have with others. The application we draw from this is that, as a family of believers, we are committed to each other. We are committed to helping out fellow Christians. We are committed to supporting them. We look to do good for them. Maybe you have the opportunity to watch someone’s kids so that they can have a date night. Maybe you have the opportunity to provide a meal for someone. Maybe you have the ability to visit someone in the hospital. These are all ways that we can show fellow believers in Jesus that we are committed to them. It’s such a great example we can set on what it means to be a family of believers.

Dear Lord, thank you for being committed to me even when I’m not committed to you. Thank you for a family of believers who support me and are committed to building me up in my relationship with you. Help me to be committed to them unconditionally. Amen.
