Acts 17:11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

When you fly on a plane, every once in a while you’ll see someone on there wearing a mask. Not a Halloween mask, but a health mask. It covers their mouth and nose so that no bacteria gets into their body and contaminates them (and in turn, their germs are not spread to others on the plane). That mask blocks what is harmful! In today’s world, there’s a lot of spiritual bacteria floating around our air. What mask are you wearing over your heart to block out the spiritual bacteria? For the Bereans, it was God’s Word. Every opinion about life, every statement they heard, every time someone told them how they should feel, they always thought, “But what does God’s Word say?” They’d run that opinion through God’s filter before they allowed the opinion or idea to sink into their heart. What is guarding your heart today? Do you just believe everything that you hear? Anything that “makes sense”? I pray not. I pray that you run it through God’s Word first because when you do that, you’ll keep the spiritual bacteria out and your heart will remain healthy.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the truth of your Word. I don’t have to guess how you feel about things because you’ve given me your truth. Let me utilize your Word today and always as it guards my heart against the spiritual bacteria of this world. Amen.
