Acts 17:11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

When Paul preached in the city of Thessalonica, some of the people there completely rejected what he had to say. Why? Because instead of filtering what Paul said through God’s Word, they filtered it through their emotions. They filtered it through their political party and what they say. They filtered it through what their parents thought. They filtered it through what Olympic superstars endorsed. The problem with each of those options is that they are all flawed. Not one of those options has a perfect opinion. They all make mistakes. The Bereans were different. They heard what Paul said and immediately thought, “What does God’s Word say?” Today, I pray that we flee from those masks that so easily influence our lives and the way we look at the world. Instead, let’s take every opinion and idea and filter it through the Word of God. It is the only true, holy, and perfect truth that we have in this world. What a blessing for today.

Thank you, Lord, for giving me your holy and perfect Word. Help me to run to the pages of Scripture, examine them, and find my answers. While the opinions of others can be beneficial, I know that ultimately your opinion is the only one that matters. Thank you for giving me your truth. Amen.
