2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
No matter who we are, where we come from, what background we have, what position in life we are in, nobody looks at the world perfectly. That’s because we are all flawed people thanks to sin. The only true and holy thing that we have in this world, and the only thing that is absolute truth, is the Bible. That’s because it is God’s Word. In this section of Scripture, Paul tells us that all Scripture is God-breathed. God influenced the writers of the Bible, directed them, and guided their writing so that they wrote down God’s truth for all mankind. That is great and we love it, until we have to filter the beliefs and ideas of this world through God’s Word. Then we struggle. Why? Because at times, God’s Word rebukes us and corrects our way of thinking. We don’t necessarily like that. And yet, we praise God for his truth. We praise God that he doesn’t tell us what we want to hear but what we need to hear. So as you examine God’s Word today, be thankful that God rebukes and corrects you because it is out of love that he does.
Dear Lord, thank you for your the truth of your Word. I admit that there are things in there that challenge me, things I don’t always like to hear. But I am thankful for your truth because I trust that you know what is best for me and all people. Let me be humble enough to hear your Word and receive it with joy. Amen.
