Luke 9:22 And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”

Do you remember the WWJD bracelets from years ago? Not only were they trendy but they got people Christ-focused by asking, “What would Jesus do?” No matter if someone is Christian or not, every one generally agrees that being more like Jesus is a good thing. But what was Jesus all about? A lot of times we think of how Jesus loved people and did good things for others. But that’s not all that Jesus was about. In fact, Jesus’ purpose was much deeper than just “doing good”. He explains his purpose for coming to earth right here in this verse. He came to suffer and die. He came not to build an empire on earth that is filled with glory, but to battle the spiritual evil of this world. Why? For you and me. He came to rescue us from this place of heartache so that one day we can live in the perfection of heaven. That’s what Jesus was all about. You want to be like Jesus? Get ready to battle against the spiritual evil living in this world. That’s what Jesus would do.

Thank you, Jesus, for coming to battle on my behalf. You have delivered me from sin and death. Be with me today as I battle against the spiritual evil of this world. Strengthen me, equip me, and deliver me. Amen.
