Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
How do you view Jesus? It is an important question because there’s a variety of perspectives out there, and most of them are wrong! We know he died for us and saved us. Yet, how often don’t we treat him more like a good teacher or someone to give us advice on how to live. Here’s the thing though: you can’t have Jesus (the actual Jesus) in your life as just a mentor. If you’re going to have Jesus in your life, he needs to be Lord. He needs to be God. So when Jesus says, “Follow me” He doesn’t mean just to follow the things he says you like, but follow everything. Even the things you don’t like. Why? Because he is Lord of all. He is God. He is perfect and holy and is all about the truth. This is the same God who died for you and rose again. Who opened the gates of heaven for you and me! Of course we want to follow him! Of course we want him in our life. Jesus is the God of love. So let’s follow him.
Jesus, thank you for living and dying for me. Today, I have several voices wanting me to follow them, but there’s only one voice I want to listen to: yours. Help me to follow you today in all aspects of my life. Amen.
