Luke 1:5 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron.
Have you ever felt that God went silent on you? What if you didn’t hear from him for 400 years? Think you’d lose hope that he was up in heaven caring for you? At this moment in Israelite history, God had gone silent for 400 years. It’d be that long since he sent a prophet to Israel. Not only that, but a guy named Herod was sitting on the throne in Jerusalem. God said that someone from the descendants of David would always be on the throne. The Romans were ruling. Herod taxed the Jews with a high tax. The once glorious holy land had turned to the eye sore of the Roman Empire. What was going on? Where was God? He seemed to go silent. Even though he was silent, he was there behind the scenes working all things. He was there working history to bring about the right moment to send the Savior in the world. He may have been silent, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t working on behalf of his people.
Have you ever felt that way? You’re going through a difficult time in your life and God seemed to go silent? Maybe that time is today. Know that God may seem to be silent, but he is there working behind the scenes for you. He’s working all things for your eternal good. He has not abandoned you. He hears you and is working for you. Take courage. Have hope. God is on your side.
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for never abandoning me. Instead you hear all of my prayers and you are working for me behind the scenes. Help me to trust you and your promises today and always. Amen.
