Luke 1:35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a the Son of God.

Imagine how scared Mary must have felt. She has to tell Joseph she’s pregnant. Word is going to get out in her town that she’s pregnant outside of her marriage. Her name will be slandered. But look at this response, “May your word to me be fulfilled.” How can she have that type of faith in the midst of this fearful moment? Because she knew whose she was. She said, “I am the Lord’s servant.” She knew and believed that she belonged to the Lord, the God of the world, and she trusted him. You and I belong to that same Lord. In our baptism, the Lord promises that he made us his children. Just like earthly parents are concerned about their children and want to take all their fears away, the Lord does, too! So, he promises that he is with us because we are his. So begin reflecting on how you belong to the Lord and what that means for every situation in life.

Lord, thank you for adopting me in baptism and making me your own. I know your promise that I am yours and that you care for me. Help me to trust that promise more and more so that I know that you are with me wherever I go. Amen.
