How is the Christian to respond when it seems all around them are reasons to panic and fear?
In this time, like any time in life, we start with what our almighty God tells us. Especially in times of fear, stress, and anxiety, it is crucial for us to hear of God’s love, the strength he promises and the hope we have as his children. It is only in our Savior and his promises that we will find peace in troubling times. And think of the opportunity we have with the comfort our God gives—we can comfort those around us with the comfort we ourselves have received from God’s Word!
What does our God tell us?
GOD OUR HELPER IS WITH US ALWAYS
“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.” Hebrews 13:5-6
GOD PROMISES TO HELP US IN OUR TIME OF NEED
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; Isaiah 43:1-3
GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND SHELTER IN TIMES OF TROUBLE
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2
GOD CARES FOR HIS CHILDREN
The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him, Nahum 1:7
GOD IS IN CONTROL
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
WHEN YOU ARE ANXIOUS, TALK TO YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER IN PRAYER
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
CALL UPON THE LORD IN THE DAY OF TROUBLE
Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” Psalm 50:15
CAST ALL OUR ANXIETY AND YOUR WORRIES ON OUR SAVIOR
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
GOD WORKS ALL THINGS FOR OUR GOOD
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
GOD IS FAITHFUL, HIS MERCIES ARE NEW EVERY MORNING
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:22-24
