True Comfort for Your Troubles

Dear Church Family,

Ya Got Trouble.

I remember being an elementary student and hearing this song from the musical turned film “The Music Man” for the first time. It’s a song about trouble, but it’s not what you would think. In the song, the trouble that comes to town is a pool table. This “trouble” is intentionally blown way out of proportion to make parents think that by allowing their kids to play pool, they will be leading them down the devil’s path. In other words, a pool table = Trouble.

What do you think the trouble is with our world today? What is the trouble in your life? It would be hard to make a song about just one thing, wouldn’t it? And let’s face it, many of our troubles aren’t ones we necessarily want to sing about, even if we could to get a laugh. Our troubles can flood our emotions until we feel weak and overwhelmed. Our troubles can sometimes even cause us to question our faith. Many of us don’t want to talk about our troubles with other people much less sing about them. We’ve all got trouble alright, Trouble with a capital “T”.

Thankfully, friends, we also have a Savior who himself knows all about Trouble. And because he overcame it, he alone can provide true comfort for people like us with troubled hearts as we journey through life. Please come to church this Sunday at 9:30 AM to hear Jesus in own words from John chapter 14 where he says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” and learn why he can say to us, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.”
