The Nations Will Rally to Him

Dear Church Family,

When we say, “Thy kingdom come,” what we are asking for? An end to war and violence? The establishment of a particular nation? The outcome of a presidential election? Some form of earthly prosperity and peace?

Not exactly. Rather, when we pray “Thy kingdom come,” we ask Jesus to rule on the throne of our hearts (and the hearts of all people!) through the gospel in preparation for his eternal kingdom.

That’s why the season of Advent is a great time to let God’s Word renovate our hearts in preparation for the arrival of Jesus Christ—receiving him as our Savior who came on Christmas, and being prepared to welcome him as our King who is coming again on the last day to usher in his eternal kingdom of glory.

In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious (Isaiah 11:10).
