What's the Big Idea?
We are all moving toward something. We have our hopes, our dreams, our desires. We’re on a mission to fulfill our self-imposed purpose in life—though we struggle at times to know what that is. Yet, what happens if, in the midst of all the distractions of life, we actually miss our defining moment?
Regardless of how well we are able to stay on task, at some point we all fall short. Then what?
The empty tomb reminds us that God does not define us by one goal, purpose or accomplishment. The cross and the empty tomb are not our achievement. They’re his. Though his rescue is a done deal, our renewal is a process. God’s salvation is not an end, but a beginning. Life is not a destination. It’s a journey.
This Easter season we want to slow down and look around. The journey we’re on isn’t what it appears to be. It’s not all about seventy or eighty years of grabbing the gusto and then it’s over. Jesus walked out of the tomb alive. There’s more to this life than meets the eye. There’s more to life than this life. We’re not making this journey alone. And we’re definitely not the ones directing it.
How does faith in a risen and living Savior impact the journey? What might change in our lives if we lived every day as though it was just another stride on a journey that never ends?
