Read Genesis 2

Scripture: Genesis 2:15, 18- The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Observations: In the perfect Garden of Eden, God gave Adam two amazing blessings: work and a companion. Both work and marriage were perfect gifts designed to be blessings for mankind. It was a joy for Adam to work the field and take care of God’s creation. It was a joy for Adam to have a wife, a partner, who was similar to him but different. Right in the beginning, we see God giving mankind both a purpose and companionship.

Application: God continues to bless me with the same purpose that Adam had. I have opportunities to work using my talents and abilities in a way that brings him glory. In the same way, he continues to give me companionship through my marriage and friendships. Both work and marriages are now flawed because of sin, but they will forever be a blessing to me.

Prayer: Father, you are a loving God who gives good gifts. Those gifts include work and marriage. Align my thoughts when it comes to my work. Let me see it for the blessing that it is that I may bring you glory. Help me to see my marriage and relationships as something worthwhile to invest in knowing that you’ve given them to me for my good. Amen.
