Read Genesis 3

Scripture: Genesis 3:21-  The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

Observations: Adam and Eve had disobeyed God. Because of sin, they now realized that they were naked, and that thought caused shame. Something inside of them triggered that they couldn’t confidently stand before God without some sort of covering. So they decided to make clothes made of fig leaves. The tattered clothes barely covered them, and they would never last. God, in his love, performed the first sacrifice and took the skins of an animal to give them better clothes which covered their shameful nakedness.

Application: I am no different than Adam and Eve. I stand naked spiritually before the Lord and it is shameful. No matter how much I try, my feeble attempts to cover myself are just like the tattered leaves that Adam and Eve put on themselves. But God had a better solution. He didn’t just sacrifice an animal, but his one and only Son. When Jesus died, he clothed me in his robes of righteousness (Galatians 3) so I stand before God with confidence. He doesn’t see the shame of my sins today, but instead he sees the perfect robes of Jesus’ righteousness on me. Because of him, my shame has been covered.

Prayer: Father in heaven, I’m amazed once again at your love for me. You didn’t just sacrifice an animal for me but your one and only Son. Through his sacrifice, I stand before you as someone who is forgiven with my shame covered. Let this truth give me confidence today as I live for you. Amen.
