Read Genesis 6

Scripture: Genesis 6:5-The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.

Observation: Apart from God, the human heart is inclined toward evil. Adam and Eve in the perfect garden were inclined toward good, but since the fall into sin every person’s heart is inclined toward evil. 

Application: This really helps me understand myself and the world around me. When people, myself included, don’t have the Word of God working on their heart the inclination of their hearts are only evil all the time. It is scary and sad, but it is reality. That is why when I hear just how disturbing this world is, it isn’t shocking. When I consider my own heart and what I’m capable of, it terrifies. I fall on the grace of God through Jesus, my Savior. There I find my strength. There I find the cure to my evil heart. It is the message of Jesus and what he’s done for me that changes my heart and motivates me to live for him. 

Prayer: Father, what incredible love and patience you have for the human race. You know the condition of my heart and yet you love me enough to bring your Word to my heart and transform it. Thank you for your continuous love.
