Read Genesis 12

Scripture: Genesis 12:12  When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live.

Observations: In chapter 12, Abraham shows great faith. God didn’t even tell him where he was to go, but Abraham went, trusting God’s promise to make him into a great nation. But as great as that faith was, he crumbled in Egypt when he felt his life was threatened. God’s original promise to him didn’t change just because his circumstances did. He just didn’t remember the promise or didn’t trust the promise when faced with the new circumstances.

Application: Because of sin, this is how faith goes. There are moments when I have all the faith in the world. Then there are situations that cause my faith to shake. But God’s promises never change. No matter what the circumstances are, God’s promises remain the same. What a comfort that brings me today. My faith isn’t built on the circumstances around me but on the promises of God. No matter what happens, whether good times or bad times, God’s promises remain the same!

Prayer: Father, I know that today isn’t going to happen exactly as I planned. I know my circumstances will change and sometimes it’ll be scary. But my faith is built on your promises which never change. Strengthen my faith today that I may trust your promises no matter what happens. Amen.
