Read Genesis 27
Scripture- Genesis 27:2-4 Isaac said, “I am now an old man and don’t know the day of my death. 3 Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.4 Prepare me the kind of tasty food I like and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my blessing before I die.”
Observation- Where did the dysfunction start? With Isaac. He knew God promised that the older would serve the younger, and yet he wasn’t content with that. He wanted Esau to have the blessing. His discontentment with God’s promise led to all kinds of trouble. All this from the family the Savior eventually comes from!
Application- My life has had its fair share of dysfunction. If I’m honest, I’ve helped cause some of the dysfunction. As I look at Isaac, Rebekah, Esau and Jacob it is so comforting to know that Jesus came from people like this for people like this. My mistakes and sins, both past and future, do not disqualify me from Jesus. He doesn’t look at me and think that I’m too big of a mess. Instead, he came from people like me for people like me. That truth will comfort me and give me confidence today as I live for him who loves me.
Prayer- Father, you have given me so many good things. Grant me contentment with your promises. Guard my thoughts and my heart that I may not take matters into my own hands or want what you’ve told me not to want. Instead, let me be at peace knowing you are in control and have given me what I need for this moment in time. Amen.
