Read Genesis 31

Scripture- Genesis 31:42 If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, you would surely have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen my hardship and the toil of my hands, and last night he rebuked you

Observation- Jacob had been through a lot during the past 20 years. He had hardships, changing wages, he was taken advantage of, and he had been deceived. Laban treated him poorly as an uncle, as an employer, and as a father-in-law. But Jacob realized that through all the hardships, God was with him.

Application- Life is filled with difficulties. I too go through hardships similar to Jacob’s. I know what it is like to be treated poorly, to be taken advantage of, and have been deceived. At times, it can even make me despair, but I won’t because I have the same blessing that Jacob did. The God of this world has been with me and will continue to be with me. He worked for Jacob through all his difficulties and he will continue to work all things for my good too.

Prayer- Father in heaven, thank you for always being with me. You don’t leave when my life gets difficult but stay right by my side. You work for my good through all things including hardships. Help me to remember that today because that’s what brings me hope and peace today.
