Read Genesis 34
Scripture– Genesis 34:25 Three days later, while all of them were still in pain, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took their swords and attacked the unsuspecting city, killing every male.
Observation- What happened to Dinah was horrible. It’s no wonder that the brothers were so angry and upset. They took justice into their own hands and killed every male in the city to get revenge.
Application- When I or someone I loved gets hurt, the natural inclination is to get revenge. I want to defend my family and get them back for what they’ve done. I pray that my children and my loved ones will never go through something like Dinah, and so many other people have. The truth is, getting revenge really won’t make me feel better in the long run. In the end, I and my loved ones will still be hurting. There’s only one cure, one fix, and that is God. He promises that he will get revenge for us. He also knows what it’s like to hurt. He watched as his one and only Son was beaten, whipped, mocked, and crucified. He empathizes with us and only he can heal our hearts. So, I won’t be like Dinah’s brothers, but I will cling to the Lord.
Prayer- Father, enduring hurt isn’t easy. Seeing a loved one get hurt is even worse. I ask you to keep my family safe today. If some harm should come upon them, help me to trust your love and that you will get vengeance the way you see fit. I rest today in your loving and defending hands.
