Read Exodus 3
Scripture- Exodus 3:11-12 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”
Observation- The deliverance of God’s people had now come. The timing was now right. God spoke to Moses telling him that he should go and tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. Moses isn’t so confident. What qualifies him to go to Pharaoh and talk to him? Why would Pharaoh listen to him? God tells him exactly why. But his answer doesn’t list Moses’ characteristics which qualifies him. Instead, God points to the one main truth: He will be with Moses.
Application- Like Moses, I can look at my life and wonder, “Who am I?” Who am I to teach my kids about Jesus? Who am to build up my spouse in Jesus? Who am I to serve at church? Who am I to spread the message of Jesus to others? God’s answer to me is the same answer to Moses. It isn’t what qualifies me but rather who qualifies me. It’s not about my characteristics and why I can do those things. Instead, it is all about my God being with me. He gives me the words to say. He is the one working through me. I just get the joy of participating. What grace!
Prayer- Thank you, Father, that you don’t make me sit on the sidelines even though you could. Instead, you let me go for you and speak on your behalf. However, you never send me alone. You promise to go with me and to work. You promise to give me the words to say. Fill me with confidence today to speak knowing that you are the one working behind the scenes. Amen.
