Read Exodus 9
Scripture- Exodus 9:27-28 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have sinned,” he said to them. “The Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong. Pray to the Lord, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go; you don’t have to stay any longer.”
Observation- Pharaoh has continued to dig his heels in against the Lord. After this plague his response is a little different. This time he says, “I have sinned.” This seems like a good thing until you realize that it is a fake confession. He doesn’t fear the Lord. He’s admitting his sins just go get what he wants.
Application- This section of Scripture makes me search my heart with this question: Why do I confess my sins? Is it because I want to try and control God? That’s what Pharaoh did. Sometimes I can think that by confessing my sins God won’t bring judgment on me, he will keep hardships from me, or he will remove sufferings from me. These attitudes should never be the ones motivating me to confess my sins. I have something greater that drives my confession and that is the love of God. The love that he has for me that he would send his one and only Son to die for me so that I can have a good relationship with him. It is that love that motivates me to confess my sins and live for him.
Prayer- Father, you are a gracious and compassionate God. You are so loving that you have sent your one and only Son for me. Let your love motivate me to confess my sins, to trust in your forgiveness, and change my ways that I might live for you. Amen.
