Read Exodus 33

Scripture- Exodus 33:11,13  The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend…”If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you.”

Observation- Moses would go out to the Tent of Meeting to meet with the Lord. He would speak with God as if talking to a friend. Moses could have asked God to help him lead the people or to make the people listen to him. Instead, what was Moses’ request? “Teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you.” He wanted to continue to be taught about the Lord and strengthen that friendship.

Application- Through Jesus, I can talk to God as one does a friend. My sins have been forgiven through Jesus so that I can approach God confidently and talk with him. The temptation is to let my relationship with God become something of a topic I study or a subject in school. That isn’t a friendship though. Instead, I want to continually be in the Word so I can learn all there is to know about my God, my Savior, my friend. I want to learn what he likes and what he doesn’t like, and I want to change my ways accordingly. I want to do all this because the God of this world gave up his one and only Son, Jesus, so that I may be called “God’s friend”. I want to talk to him and get to know him everyday.

Prayer- Lord, thank you for washing me clean of my sin through your Son, Jesus, so that I can be your friend. Let me never stop learning about you so that I may know your ways and continue to find favor with you. I never want to lose the desire to open up your Word and learn about you. Continue to inspire me everyday. Amen.
