Read Numbers 21
Scripture- Numbers 21:8-9- The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.
Observation- The people once again complained and grumbled about the lack of food and water. This time, God sent venomous snakes that bit the people. To save them, God had Moses make a bronze snake and place it on a pole. Anyone who was bit could look up to the bronze snake on the pole and live.
Application- I wish God would take the deadly poison of sin and zap it away. Unfortunately, he doesn’t do that. Instead, he has given us the cure; not a snake on the pole but his one and only Son lifted up. In John 3, Jesus connects the dots saying that just as Moses lifted the snake up so the Son of Man must be lifted up. When I look at him, I will not die but live. God may not remove the sin out of my life, but he has given me the cure so that I will not die but live.
Prayer- Jesus, I praise and thank you for being the cure to my sin. You were lifted up on the pole just like that bronze snake was. Because of you, I can and will live. Continue to point my eyes to you as the only cure for the deadly poison of sin. Amen.
