Read Joshua 1

Scripture- Joshua 1:9- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Observation- Moses had died leaving Joshua as leader of the people. Not only was Joshua taking over as the leader of a million people, but he was leading them into battle as they conquered the land of Canaan. He had to be scared, nervous, and filled with anxiety. God comforts him and encourages him with a wonderful promise.

Application- That same promise is mine today. God commands me to be strong and courageous. He doesn’t say, “It’d be nice if you were,” or, “I really suggest you are.” Rather, he commands me to be strong and courageous. I can be those things because he is with me. My courage and my strength do not come from my own abilities and qualifications. I’m strong and courageous because the Lord my God will be with me wherever I go. He will provide all I need for every situation. His strength, his might, and his presence make me strong and courageous today.

Prayer- Father, you are my strong and mighty God. Just like you were with Joshua, you will be with me wherever I go. Because you are, I am strong and courageous today. I have nothing to fear and no reason to be discouraged. Fill me with strength, courage, and confidence today that I may carry out your will for my life. Amen.
