Read Joshua 2

Scripture- Joshua 2:9-11- I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea[a] for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.

Observation- God’s reputation went out ahead of him. Rahab and the people of Jericho heard all about the things God had done. They still remembered that 40 years before this event God dried up the Red Sea. They heard of the destruction of the other kings and cities. Rahab was afraid. The Israelite spies were able to tell her that God will save them if they remain in the house with the cord in the window. 

Application- Just like then, God’s reputation goes out before him today as well. When people think about God, they tend to think of an angry God who punishes and destroys. I have the opportunity today to tell people about the Lord who also saves. Yes, deals with sin but he’s also a loving and forgiving God who has saved the world through his one and only Son. He has brought me and all believers into his house where we are safe for eternity. 

Prayer- Father in heaven, people have a perception of you before I come into contact with them. Give me the words to say so that I can tell them of the loving, compassionate, and gracious God that I have. Thank you for the people in my life who have led me to you, my Savior God.
