Read Judges 16
Scripture- Judges 16:17- So he told her everything. “No razor has ever been used on my head,” he said, “because I have been a Nazirite dedicated to God from my mother’s womb. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man.”
Observation- Samson seems to be pretty arrogant in this section. He had to know that Delilah was betraying him, and yet he didn’t care. He didn’t think that he would actually be taken down. He let temptation stick around as he flirted with his demise, and then it went too far. He told her everything. All his strength left him, he was captured, and made a fool. But while he was there, he called on the LORD. The covenant Lord made a promise to Abraham that he send a Savior.
Application- The question for me today isn’t, “Can I relate to Samson?” Rather the question is, “What temptation am I doing this with today?” What temptation am I allowing to stick around in my life, flirting with, but in the end it’ll bring my demise? Temptation is a powerful thing. So powerful that I can’t fight it on my own. When I fall, I want to do exactly what Samson does: call on the name of the covenant Lord. The Lord who promises to forgive me through Jesus. Today, I want to recognize where I’m letting temptation stick around and run from it.
Prayer- Father, help me to recognize where I’m allowing temptation to stick around. Motivate me to run from it today. Give me the humility to realize that I’m not as strong as I may think. Thank you for your unconditional love and undeserved forgiveness. Amen.
