Read 1 Samuel 18

Scripture- 1 Samuel 18:8- “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?”

Observation- Saul became extremely jealous of David. People loved David, and he continued to be more and more successful. Saul’s jealousy stemmed from one big fear: losing the kingdom to David.

Application- The fear of losing something can cause all kinds of emotions. One of those emotions is jealousy. When I fear someone will take my job or some object that is near and dear to me, I can become just like Saul. I can get jealous and act irrationally. Just like God gave the kingdom to Saul, God has given all of these things to me. They are blessings and gifts from him that he can and will replace. Even when others are getting praised today, I can be joyful instead of jealous. My God has me exactly where he wants me to be for as long as he wants me there.

Prayer- Father, thank you for giving me everything that you have. My job and the objects in my life are blessings from you. Help me to live joyfully today knowing that you continue to provide for me. Remove all jealousy and fear from my heart knowing that you are with me and continue to guide my life. Amen.
