Read 1 Samuel 23
Scripture- 1 Samuel 23:9-10- When David learned that Saul was plotting against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod.” David said, “Lord, God of Israel, your servant has heard definitely that Saul plans to come to Keilah and destroy the town on account of me.
Observation- David had heard that Saul was coming to search for him and was plotting against him. Surprisingly, David’s first response wasn’t to run nor was it to fight. His very first reaction was to go to the Lord in prayer.
Application- I’m a person who loves to get things done, check things off my list, and fix problems. I have to admit that I don’t respond to situations in life the way David did. If I were David in this situation, I probably would have run first and prayed later. The amazing thing is that the Lord, the God of the world, wants to hear from me. He wants me to come with my problems, my thanks, my questions, and when I’m in the need of guidance. Today, I’m going to work on praying first and acting second.
Prayer- Father in heaven, thank you for always being there for me and inviting me to pray to you. Help me to pray first and act second. Let me stop long enough to listen for you and to you. Amen.
