Read 1 Samuel 25

Scripture- 1 Samuel 25:28- The Lord your God will certainly make a lasting dynasty for my lord, because you fight the Lord’s battles, and no wrongdoing will be found in you as long as you live.

Observation- Abigail gave David a great reminder! He wasn’t fighting his own battles or spreading his own kingdom. Instead, he was fighting the Lord’s battles. Instead of focusing on what David wanted and on his hurt feelings, he should have been concerned with what God wanted. Thankfully, the Lord sent Abigail to remind him that he fights the Lord’s battles.

Application- Though I’m not the king of Israel, that truth still applies to me today as a father, a husband, and a pastor. Am I fighting battles for and with my children to spread the kingdom of Stephen or the kingdom of God? Am I battling in and for my marriage for Stephen’s sake or the Lord’s? As a pastor am I trying to spread the name and reputation of Stephen Apt or am I battling to spread the holy reputation of the Lord and expand his kingdom? I may be hurt, just like David, but I don’t fight to expand my kingdom. Rather, I fight and do my part to expand the greater kingdom: the kingdom of the Lord.

Prayer- Father, it is so easy to get caught up in spreading my own little kingdom. But you have placed me in the rolls that I have to fight on behalf of and to expand a greater kingdom. That kingdom is yours. I’m so thankful that you’ve brought me into that kingdom and have given me the privilege of working for you. Amen.
