Read 1 Samuel 26

Scripture- 1 Samuel 26:9 But David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him! Who can lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed and be guiltless?

Observation- David had been driven from Israel even though he was innocent. He had been on the run for so long already. When it is all said and done, he ran from Saul for 10 years. It was hard, difficult, and anxiety-filled as he was always looking over his shoulder. David could end it now. The only problem? It wouldn’t be God-pleasing. Instead of sinning to make his life easier, he chose to follow the Lord which actually made his life more difficult in the present.

Application- I’ve never been chased for my life as David had been. However, I have faced difficult times in my life. When those moments come, there’s usually an option to get rid of the trouble and difficulties. The only problem? Those options generally cause me to sin against God. The temptation offers immediate relief but will result in a guilty verdict before God. I’m reminded of Jesus and the temptations he faced in the wilderness and in the garden the night before he died. It’s because of him that I am righteous before the Lord. As difficult as it may be, I want to follow the Lord and be guiltless before him even if that means the difficulty and hardship don’t end quite yet.

Prayer- Father, there are so many situations in life where sinning seems like the easiest way out. Yet, sinning is never the right answer. Forgive me for Jesus’ sake for the times when I take measures into my own hands and sin. Guard my lips, my thoughts, and my actions today so that I may respond like your child in every situation. Strengthen my faith in you today so that I trust you even in difficult times. Amen.
