Read 2 Samuel 13
Scripture- 2 Samuel 13:21-22- When King David heard all this, he was furious. And Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad; he hated Amnon because he had disgraced his sister Tamar.
Observation- David was a great military leader and a beloved king. However, he struggled at being a family man and leading his family as a father. This whole chapter is a case in point. He doesn’t confront Amnon after he rapes his sister. We aren’t told that he consoles Tamar. After Absalom kills Amnon, David doesn’t go to confront him either. David doesn’t want to confront the problems in his family and everything spins out of control.
Application- Confronting problems isn’t easy nor is it fun. Nobody likes to have hard conversations with others, but hard conversations are necessary. If I’m honest, I understand where David is coming from. Sometimes I don’t know exactly how to respond or how hard to push. At times, it is easier to not get involved. When issues arise, I can’t sit idly by. I need to get involved, have hard conversations, and lead my family to Jesus.
Prayer- Father, thank you for your constant work on my heart. You continue to mold me and shape me into the leader you want me to be. Give me courage, love, grace, and boldness to get involved and have hard conversations. Give me the wisdom I need and the words to say as I lead others to you. Amen.
