Read 1 Kings 13
Scripture- 1 Kings 13:19- So the man of God returned with him and ate and drank in his house.
Observation- God’s Word was clear to this prophet. He wasn’t supposed to eat or drink there. He wasn’t supposed to return the way he came. He was to deliver the message then leave. Then someone else told him that he also had God’s Word and that he should come and eat and drink with him. Instead of comparing it with the Word of God, he just listened to the man.
Application- God has given me his Word, the Bible. That’s important because I live in a time when people comment on the Bible all the time. Before I just trust that someone is speaking God’s Word, I need to go back to the Bible and compare what God says with what the person says. Then I will be able to tell if that person is speaking God’s Word. The Bible is the only place where God’s Word is clearly spoken and I can trust it without question. I want to hold onto it, cherish it, and always test everything I hear with it.
Prayer- Father, thank you for your Word. There you have given me guidance, wisdom, and have laid out your will for my life. Forgive me for the times that I disregard it and listen to others instead of you. The blessing of your Word is that in it I also hear of my Savior Jesus who lived, died, and rose so that I will not die, but live. Amen.
