Read 1 Kings 15
Scripture- 1 Kings 15: 13- He even deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah.
Observation- This took courage from Asa. He deposed his grandmother from her position which couldn’t have been easy to do. It had to create an awkward family dynamic. However, it had to be done because our God comes first and foremost.
Application- The hard lesson for me to learn is that God comes first. That means even above my family. That could lead to some awkward family dynamics as I stand up for my God and live for him. I try my best to do this with love and respect but I know I fail at times. I’m thankful for Jesus today because he always did this perfectly. Not just as my example but also as my substitute. He loved God first in his life for me. His love for me and for God motivates me to put God first even if that means awkward family dynamics for me.
Prayer- Father in heaven, you are the most important person in my life. You love me, saved me, and continue to be with me through all things. Let me put you first even if that means some awkward conversations. Give me strength, courage, love, and respect as I carry this out. Amen.
