Read 1 Kings 17

Scripture- 1 Kings 17:3-4- “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan.  You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.

Observation- Elijah had confronted wicked King Ahab and announced that there’d be a famine in the land. Yet, the Lord would provide for his prophet in ways that Elijah would have never expected. God provided food for him from ravens, which were unclean birds that they weren’t to touch. He also provided for Elijah through a widow who wasn’t even an Israelite. Rather, this widow was from Jezebel’s country.

Application- God can and does provide in ways that I would never expect. When I look at situations, I generally only see a narrow way of how God can provide for me. Yet, God isn’t bound to my narrow-mindedness. He can and does provide in ways that I could never imagine. Today, I want to look back at how God has provided for me, give thanks for those moments, and then trust that he will provide for me going forward.

Prayer- Father in heaven, you are a God who provides. Thank you for your loving providence that takes care of all my needs. Forgive me for my worry and strengthen me in the loving forgiveness that you won for me at Jesus’ cross and empty tomb. Give me confidence in this life that you will provide for all I need when I need it. Amen.
