Read 1 Kings 18
Scripture- 1 Kings 18:21- Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”
Observation- The Israelites went back and forth between God and Baal. Baal was a god that appealed to sinful nature. Worshipping Baal involved sexual pleasure and, through that worship, Baal supposedly promised fertility and strength. Elijah told the people they needed to decide which one is the true God. They needed to make a decision and worship one and only one.
Application- As I think about my life, I wonder where my heart wavers between God and something else? Is it a position? A title? Is it power? Appearance? Is it wealth? What is it in my life that is battling for the throne of my heart? I know that the only true God is the Lord God, and I want to follow him. Because of that, I want to identify the idols that I’m wavering between, and then turn from them and follow God alone. I want to take a stand today and follow God no matter what.
Prayer- Father in heaven, you are the Lord God Almighty, the only true God. I know that idols will battle for my heart today. Forgive me for the times I have followed them, and let me see through their lies and empty promises. Today, I want to follow you and you alone. Send your Spirit to help me do this today. Amen.
