Read 2 Kings 10

Scripture- 2 Kings 10:31- Yet Jehu was not careful to keep the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit.

Observation- Jehu seemed to have such a big heart for the Lord. He seemed to have zeal and desire to serve and worship God. At the end of the day, it seemed he was zealous for God for the political benefits that came from it more than he was zealous for God himself.

Application- Why do I serve and worship God? The temptation my heart faces is to serve and worship God because of the blessings he gives me. The physical blessings should never be the main reason for my zeal for the Lord. I want to be zealous, passionate, and in pursuit of the Lord and his will even if all my physical blessings go away. I want to love him for him, not for the gifts he gives me. To do that, I have to shift my focus from the blessing to the blesser. I need to meditate on the characteristics of God and who he is. He is my kind, compassionate, gracious, merciful, and loving God.

Prayer- Father, you have the power to grant anything and everything. Every good and perfect gift is from you. Forgive me for the times that I love the gifts more than you, the giver. Guard my heart today that I may love you, desire you, and be zealous for you. Amen.
