Read 2 Kings 11

Scripture- 2 Kings 11:1- When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to destroy the whole royal family.

Observation- When Athaliah destroyed the whole royal family, she killed all her family. These were her grandchildren, sons, daughters, daughters-in-law, and sons-in-law. It was a ruthless act to gain power, glory, and a name for herself.

Application- I look at this account and wonder how someone could do that? Yet, earthly power, glory, and a name for oneself is so tempting that people will do anything to have it. It’s that same thing that motivates me to put someone down so that I feel bigger. It’s what causes me to slander someone so that I feel important. It’s what causes me to trample over people as I climb the ladder so to speak. While I’m busy trying to climb the ladder and trampling over people, my Savior Jesus climbed down the ladder where he was trampled by people. He gave up his name, his power, his glory all so that I could have power, glory, and a name that actually matters. Through him, I have eternal glory, eternal power, and an eternal name. Nothing can take that away from me because it has been won by Jesus. Because of this, I will humbly serve others today and put them before myself.

Prayer- Father in heaven, thank you for bringing me eternal power, glory, and a name through Jesus. Thank you for forgiving me for the times that I seek those things at the expense of others. Let me humbly serve you by serving others today. Amen.
