Read Jonah 2
Scripture- Jonah 2:9- But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good.I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”
Observation- Jonah had three days in the belly of a great fish to consider life, but more importantly, his relationship with God. His conclusion? Salvation comes from the Lord. He was saved not by his works, not because he was a Jew, nor because he was a prophet. Salvation comes from the Lord and him alone. This led him to sacrifice with shouts of grateful praise.
Application- Salvation comes from the Lord. That truth also includes my salvation from sin, death, and the devil. I’m not saved because I go to church, I was born in America, or because I’m a good person. I’m saved because of Jesus’ work for me at the cross and the empty tomb. This salvation causes me to be filled with shouts of grateful praise, and now I want to sacrifice to the Lord. I want to sacrifice my sinful wants and desires, and instead live to glorify the Lord who saves me. The Lord’s salvation leads to thanks shown in sacrifice. I will sacrifice out of thanks today!
Prayer- Father in heaven, you are the Lord of salvation. You have forgiven me and saved me from my sin and from death. This truth brings me so much joy today that I want to sacrifice to you. I want to give you praise and thanks in my life by sacrificing my wants and desires to live for you. Guide me, lead me, motivate me with your salvation. Amen.
