Read 2 Kings 15

Scripture- 2 Kings 15:19- Then Pul king of Assyria invaded the land, and Menahem gave him a thousand talents of silver to gain his support and strengthen his own hold on the kingdom. 

Observation- Menahem was the king in Israel. There was no position higher than his in the kingdom. Yet, he still wasn’t confident his position was secured. So he turned to the king of Assyria, the enemy of God’s people, to support and strengthen his hold on the kingdom. His throne may have been secured, but his position in God’s kingdom was in jeopardy. 

Application- I can get caught up in my position in life as well. Whether that be a career position or my reputation with those around me. I can get so caught up in these positions looking to secure them that sometimes I forget about my position in God’s Kingdom. All the other positions, jobs, careers, reputations will end. My position in God’s Kingdom will remain forever. Today, this is the one I want to make sure is secured and strengthened. That only happens through my Savior Jesus and the message of his life, death, and resurrection for me. 

Prayer- Gracious Father, you have secured my position in your kingdom through your Son Jesus. Strengthen that position for me today by sending your Holy Spirit to strengthen my faith in Jesus. Let this position be my first priority today. Amen.
