Read Luke 2

Scripture- Luke 2:19- But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart

Observations- Mary had just given birth, wrapped her newborn baby in cloths, and placed him in a manger. She was finally resting in the barn with Joseph. Suddenly, shepherds show up with an amazing story. They are there to see the baby because angels appeared to them in the field! They announced that this baby was the Savior born into this world. What did all this mean? What was this child going to be? Who would he be? Each memory she treasured up and pondered them.

Application- Life gets so busy that it is hard to sit and ponder. There are very few moments of my day where I sit and just ponder about life. Instead, it is filled with people, screens, and my big to-do list all the time. Yet, every day I want to take a moment to sit and think about who my Savior is and what he has done. I want to treasure those memories and think about them and their impact on my life. When Jesus was born, the joy wasn’t just because another baby was born. The joy came from the fact that this baby would grow up and from the cross cry, “It is finished.” He would breathe his last breath and then give up his soul. For what? For me! Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.

Prayer- Dear Jesus, the glory, the joy, the excitement of your birth is all wrapped up in what you came to do. You have always been and will always be the Savior born to take away sin. Guard my heart today and motivate me to take a few minutes to ponder what your birth means for me. Let me treasure and ponder it every day of my life. Amen.
