Read Luke 3
Scripture- Luke 3:8- Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
Observations- Why did John say this? People were claiming to be children of God but then living their life like they weren’t. There was no change in their behavior. No change in their actions. No change in the way they did business. They maintained their corrupt, deceitful, and unloving ways. Repentance is more than just saying sorry. Repentance means a change of mind. God forgave their sin. It was now time to change their ways and live for the Father who graciously forgives the sins of the world.
Application- It is so easy for me to fall into the lie that I don’t have to change. That’s actually not true at all. When God’s love touches my heart, when forgiveness for sins is preached and I meditate on what it took for God to make me his child, it does change me. Jesus died for my sins to make me his child, why would I want to live in sin any longer? My life will always be one of changing and turning from my sinful ways to living for Jesus the way Jesus wants me to; not the way society wants me to, but the way Jesus wants me to. The more I grow in Jesus’ love and forgiveness for me, the more I want to repent and produce good works in my life knowing that I am a child of God.
Prayer- Dear Jesus, you loved me so incredibly much that you came to this earth to live perfectly, die innocently, and rise victoriously from the grave all to make me a child of the Heavenly Father. What an amazing blessing that is! My heart is so tempted to live in ways that are not God-pleasing. I ask you today to send your Spirit to motivate me to turn from my ways and produce good works in my life that may honor and glorify you today.
