Read Luke 6
Scripture- Luke 6:46- “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”
Observation- There were many people following Jesus. A lot of them were calling Jesus “Lord”. Unfortunately, a good majority of them called him Lord but then didn’t listen to what he said. They didn’t put his word into practice.
Application- As I examine my own heart, where would Jesus look at me and say, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Where does he see me sinning? In what areas am I ignoring his words? As I think about those areas, I need to answer Jesus’ question. Why? Why am I not putting his word into practice? Why am I not doing what he says? I think there are two reasons. 1) There’s a part of me that loves to sin. 2) I think I fail to fully understand God’s hatred over sin. It’s time I start taking Jesus’ words seriously and putting them into practice. That means turning from sin to his grace. Turning from punishment to salvation. Turning from my sin to Jesus’ righteousness that he won for me. That means turning from my sinful selfish ways to Jesus’ selfless love and forgiveness.
Prayer- Thank you, Jesus, for the forgiveness you’ve won for me. You have saved me from my sin and brought me into your family. I’m sorry for all the times that I haven’t done what you’ve said. I’m so thankful for your love and forgiveness. Help me to hear your word and put it into practice today confident of the forgiveness you won for me. Amen.
