Read Luke 21
Scripture- Luke 21:33- Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Observations- Jesus has a long discourse for his disciples on what to expect in the future, and it is not a good one. He talks about the destruction of Jerusalem. There will be signs in the heavenly bodies. People will be perplexed at the tossing sea. They will be handed over to be persecuted. Everything will eventually come to an end or be destroyed…except for one thing. God’s Word will endure forever.
Application- There are many things that are precious to me. However, there’s nothing in this world that is eternal except the Word of God. When I hold the Bible in my hands, I have in my hands the eternal word of God that will last forever. It is hard to fathom that the words on the pages of Scripture will go on for eternity; there is no destroying them. People may try to destroy it, kings and nations may rage against it, but God’s Word will endure forever. As I meditate on the fact that the Word is eternal, it helps me treasure it more today.
Prayer- Dear Jesus, you’ve given me many precious gifts but nothing quite like your Word. It is the only thing that is eternal in this world. Thank you for revealing it to me and controlling all history to make sure that it never fades away. Let me see the Bible with new eyes today. It is not just another book, but it is the very Word of God that will endure for all eternity, and I have it in my hands. Thank you! Amen.
